So You Think You Sold Your House. Now What?

In the never-ending saga that is our house sale (and I totally shouldn’t complain, because there are stories out there of being in escrow for MONTHS!) today was our original closing date. Are we closing today? NOPE! The buyer’s bank took it’s sweet time making a decision on whether we need to repair the foundation prior to the sale. The verdict took 10 days to reach, and yes, we need to fix it for them to finance. So now we wave goodbye to the $4,000 we spent months saving up. Ah, well, c’est la vie right?

The good news is, we have a firm closing date for October 12, which is two weeks from today. As today crept closer and closer, I grew more and more agitated to not know whether we’d be required to fix the foundation or not. We didn’t get the news until Wednesday, which would have been slightly horrifying if we didn’t have to fix it (you know, minus the whole saving 4K thing) and needed to move out in two days. The bank didn’t care that their decision would impact us so much. They just kept on procrastinating, and it drove us bonkers!

But now at least we know we can start packing for real. I’ve got 10 boxes full of books, cookware, decor and house crap already. I’ve sold a bunch of stuff and started dismantling furniture we don’t use every day. Utilities have been scheduled to shut off. It’s time to get this show on the road! I promise to do my best to keep this space interesting and fun and not descend into a catchall of moving stress stories. I just wanted to pop in with a quick update that we’re still moving forward, and construction is thisclose to starting at the new place! T-minus 14 days until the big move. We’re so excited!
