I had a super lazy day yesterday. It was one of those days when you’re so hungry for lunch, but way too tired to make anything good or pick something up so you settle for a can of soup. Yeah, that was me. So to combat my earlier fatigue, I kicked into gear after 5pm and actually got a lot of stuff done. I worked on the nursery closet for a good while, and then I primed and painted the grody cabinet in the nursery bathroom. It’s now a dreamy, glossy grey. For another refresher, here’s what we started with:
I still cringe when I see this ugly old thing. I used some no-VOC Olympic primer that I had purchased (which is fabulous, by the way!) and painted it with some grey semi-gloss Valspar that we had used on the walls in the bathroom at our Southern Oaks house.
Doesn’t it look so much better? I tucked Charlie’s little step-stool in the gap there, and it fits perfectly. I blogged about building the stool here, and at my hometown baby shower I had all the guests sign it just like our wedding guestbook bench. I thought it would be a fun way to commemorate the piece without going overboard with her initials or name again. I also swapped out the rustic Texan-looking knobs with some enamel white ones. I’ll re-use the drawer pull from the before pic, but I plan to do something about the gold showing on it. The previous owner’s had a thing for gold, I’m finding out. One other detail you may not have noticed is that I busted my ass painting those ugly brown doors. The knobs still need to be sprayed to cover up the hideous brass finish, but I’m getting there! With my project to-do list finally dwindling, I’m feeling much more prepared for the kiddo to get here. I don’t know why my mind is insisting that she has to have a finished bedroom and bathroom, when she won’t even be able to see it, much less appreciate it, for quite some time. Blame it on blog land for making us all crazy about DIY and design!
