A Finally Finished Fireplace

A million years ago Three months ago, when we moved into our house, we planned on mounting our tv over the fireplace. The crazy old owners of the house had set up their media center smack dab in front of the giant picture windows, completely blocking out all the light. That crazy arrangement wasn’t going to fly with us. However, we weren’t quite sure how we wanted to execute our vision. First we planned to build a new wooden mantel out of large beams and walnut wood. Then we decided to scrap that, and just use what we already had. However, mounting still had to wait until I finished painting the bricks, which wasn’t something I could achieve while massively pregnant. After waiting two months to pop out our kiddo, then taking another two to paint this sucker, we finally got to the point that we could mount our tv! I ordered a 32″-60″ mount from Target online for about $55, which is so much cheaper than what they carry in stores. The Husbane took care of the mounting portion while I was out of town, and only had to buy a concrete bit since the mount came equipped with mounting hardware for brick fireplaces. How awesome is that? Way to go, Target! Our tv is finally off the floor, and our living room is complete! Woot!

Hooray! It only took us four months to get around to doing 😉 The cord situation isn’t the best ever, all I did was zip tie them together and nail the cluster to the wall, then paint over them so they blend in a little. We may come up with another solution down the road, but right now this works. It just feels so good to be finished with this time-sucking project.

Have you finished any projects lately that have taken forever to get done? Or are you still working on it?

TV infront of the window is a no go but the piano there is ok?

Hahaha! I guess you’re right, it does seem a little hypocritical, huh? In my defense, my rationale was that if you have a tv/media center in front of it (like the previous owners had set up) then you have to block out all the light and pretend the window isn’t there. Though the piano is bg, it only covers up about 50% of the window and light. And…I don’t really have anywhere else to put it. So we’re kind of stuck wtih it there. But I like it. It keeps me from feeling like the neighbors are staring at me when I’m sitting on the couch!

Love it! And your cord situation isn’t nearly as bad as ours – we plan on eventually running them behind the wall, but for now they’re just hanging out in full sight – NOT cute! :)

    1. It’s so hard to find a creative solution to hide cords with brick. And honestly, it took us such a long time to get this tv/fireplace thing done that I’m just going to ignore it for a few months!

that looks awesome! I LOVE the grey!!! Unfortunately… I’m STILL working on finishing our front door… and when I say “working on,” I actually mean passively thinking about doing and guiltily walking by it in the garage! My goal is to have it up by Thanksgiving! LET’S GIT R’ DONE!!!

    1. I have so many projects like that too. It’s just so hard to find the motivation sometimes. Good luck getting that door done!

Love it! Just wondering—why do you call your husband your husbane?

    1. It’s kind of a joke for us, I wrote about it in my About Me on the top left. Basically it came around because I kid him that there are days I love him more than anything, and days where he’s the bane of my existance 😉

Oh I gotcha! I just thought it was a typo the first time I saw it but you say it so often I figured it couldn’t be a typo!
