Yesterday was my MIL’s birthday, and her daughters had come up with a great idea for a present. They wanted to pose with a sign, each with a reason why they loved their mom. Then they’d have a group pic wishing her a happy birthday. Well, we didn’t have much to make a sign with, but we did have a chalkboard wall! So Jenny made a title at the top, then each wrote their reason why they love their mama.
They asked me if I could find a collage frame to display them all, but then I found this awesome tutorial over at Shanty 2 Chic.
Though this was for photo letter art, I thought it’d be a perfect fit for their idea, and it would make my contribution a little more substantial than just buying a frame. I picked up 4 wooden frames from Hobby Lobby for $1 each (they were half off) and painted them. Then I popped in their printed photos, and hot glued them to a stained piece of 1/4″ plywood we had in the garage.
It turned out really cute! She was very, very happy with her gift. I hammered in two photo hangers to the back, and it’s ready to display. Well, at least it is after Charlie is through with her Quality Control inspection.
This would also make a great present for Mother’s Day, which is coming on fast. If you don’t have plywood laying around in your garage, you can pick up a 1×8 board at a home improvement store and get it cut down to the width you needed, depending on how many frames you’re doing. It’s a fun and easy project that will hold a lot of meaning for the one you gift it to!
